Tajik diplomats conquered Mount Fuji
If a friend suddenly turns out to be
Not quite a friend, not quite an enemy, but just...
If you can't tell at a glance,
If he's good or bad,
Take a risk! Take him along to climb a mountain.
Don't send him off on his own;
Have him use the same support hooks that you do,
And then you'll know, who you're dealing with.
On the occasion of 25th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan Embassy staff, headed by Ambassador Dr. Hamrokhon Zarifi climbed to the highest peak of Japan - sacred for every Japanese Mount Fuji.
Despite the long hours of exhausting trekking, strong gusts of wind that made up to 35 km/h, temperature changes (at the bottom of the volcano air temperature was 25 °С, and at the top of Fuji ranged from +5 to +7 °C), the Tajik diplomats at an altitude of 3776 m. hoisted the flag of the Republic of Tajikistan. Climbing a mountain took about 6 hours and 3.5 hours to descent.
The first attempt of the diplomatic staff of the mission of Tajikistan to conquer the Mount Fuji about two weeks ago was not successful - the weather conditions (heavy rain, fog and gusty wind), contrary to the predictions did not allow to climb higher than 8th station (around 3400 m): the whole mountain is divided into 10 stations, the so-called gome.
Particularly it deserves to point out mysterious weather of Mount Fuji - at the second attempt to climb the mountain from the southwestern part; Mount Fuji was shrouded with impenetrable fog, rain and wind, while the eastern side was shining bright sun. Although, while climbing the mountain, the wind increased at the peak tore a gaping tourists’ equipment, and often gave away the tourists themselves.
Climbing Tajik diplomats took place from Subashiri trail, about 8 km long. All in all, from the 5th station up to the top there are 4 trails: Kawaguchiko, Subashiri, Gotemba and Fujinomiya. There are also routes from the bottom of the mountain: Shojiko, Yoshida, Suyama and Murayama. All routes are equipped with special tracks.
Special consideration is given to the maintenance of clean at Mount Fuji - the throwing wastes and garbage is strictly prohibited; each tourist is given a special plastic bag for free to dispose garbage. Failure to comply with this rule shall be entitled to the administration to fine careless tourist.
Most of the year the Mount Fuji shrouded with mist and it always rare chance to see the mountain in all its splendor and majesty. Climbing season is open only two months of the year - from early July to late August. During this period the weather at Mount Fuji is considered to be favorable; climbing the mountain safer and all the facilities operate; including numerous yamagoya (Japanese mountain hut), where travelers are able to buy food and drinks, as well as relax.
Fujiyama, or as it is called by Japanese – Fujisan is the symbol and pride of Japan, and unbreakable bond of generations the traditions of the Japanese people. Every Japanese person is committed and honored to climb Mount Fuji during its life. There is even the Japanese saying: “if you never climb Mount Fuji once you are a fool, if you climb it more than once you are twice the fool."
This is not only a place of religious pilgrimage, but also a very popular destination for foreign tourists. Every year the mountain is visited by about 300 000-400 000 people, one third of whom are foreign tourists, though not all of them dare to conquer the mountain. It is noteworthy that on the top of Mount Fuji, along with administrative buildings (meteorological station, post office, and hotel) there is Shinto shrine, Japanese traditional Shinto religion.
Not every is capable of conquering the majestic Mount Fuji; every traveler, who set out to make the ascent must possess certain physical endurance and training, possess the skill and experience of climbing in the mountains, to be able to orientate in unexpected and difficult situations. That's why in each group of tourists there has to be a person with all the above criteria.
The uniqueness of the Mount Fuji is its perfect conical shape, created by nature over thousands of years - numerous volcanic explosions and abundant lava have created its unusual conical shape. Fuji volcano is active “stratovolcano” that last erupted in 1707–1708.
Mount Fuji is located on the Japanese island of Honshu, 100 kilometers southwest of Tokyo, and is considered to be less-active volcano. Mount Fuji is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the scenic surroundings mountains are part of the National Park Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.
Mount Fuji captivates with its beauty and grandeur, and the silver surfaces of the five legendary lakes add the incredibly beautiful landscape, spreading out around the mountain. Aokigahara forest is very famous - at the bottom of the volcano Fuji soaked with legends about ghosts and spirits that inhabit this forest. In general, the very emergence of Mount Fuji shrouded in legends and myths. For example, in ancient times only the chosen one were able to conquer the sacred Mount Fuji, and according to legend one who reached the top became “immortal”.
A special place is taken by Mount Fuji in Japanese poetry and the visual arts. Its grandeur and divine beauty inspired poets sang praises, and the artists portrayed the "true form" of Mount Fuji as a smoking volcano with acute apex, eternally covered with ice.
An interesting fact is that the top of the Mount Fuji (from station 8 up to the top) is a private property owned by the Sengen Grand Shrine.

On June 13, 2016 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov made a statement at the High-Level Experts Meeting on Finding Solutions to Preventing Violent Extremism held in "Kohi Navruz", Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
Minister in his statement emphasized that at present violent extremism, as a multifaceted negative phenomenon, has been gaining more cross-border nature and spread of radicalization ideas also have had socio-economic and ideological prerequisites promoting susceptibility of the individual segments of population to extremist ideas and slogans.
Having touched upon the cooperation on this issue, Sirodjidin Aslov pointed out that the inefficient regional and international cooperation in this field can contribute to strengthening of the processes of radicalization and extremism. In its turn, the Republic of Tajikistan in accordance with its international commitments takes necessary measures to prevent and defeat violent extremism and terrorism. The efforts of the Government are aimed at the effective and timely prevention of these phenomena. Concurrently, security and stability in the country and harmony within the society remain our Government’s top priority.
He also noted that world is getting globalized in parallel with the internationalization of crime and growing number of international extremist and terrorist movements, and in this regard, extremist and terrorist phenomena in the Republic of Tajikistan and beyond it have common roots. Tajikistan, being at the forefront of the fight against various security threats, and despite of limited economic opportunities, undertakes comprehensive regular measures in this area internally.
According to the Minister, unfortunately, the policy of double standards applied nowadays does not make it possible to adequately and objectively assess the situation, potential threats, and take into account the peculiarities of the region. Mr Aslov noted that Tajikistan has a bitter experience of internal conflict imposed by extremist groups and their sponsors, negative influence of which is still felt. Measures undertaken by the Government are aimed at avoiding those tragic events.
Foreign Minister urged all stakeholders to be extremely cautious in assessment of the events occurring in various regions, and to take into account the specifics of each country, rather than making unanimous allegations.
According to Minister Aslov, international and regional cooperation would promote the development and further implementation of collective and effective measures to combat violent extremism. It is particularly important in a complex military-political situation in the Middle East and in neighboring Afghanistan. In this context, he emphasized the need for increased efforts by the international community to provide targeted financial and technical assistance to Afghanistan, from which stability of the country and the region depends substantively.
At the conclusion, Sirodjidin Aslov noted that efforts to prevent violent extremism can be successful only if the effective cooperation with civil society, private sector and every member of society will be established.
In his statement, Foreign Minister emphasized that Tajikistan has always demonstrated in practice commitment to its obligations in the field of protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, and its readiness for constructive dialogue on all aspects related to the human rights issue. Tajikistan stands out for further development and deepening of mutually beneficial partnerships as well as for open and dialogue based on mutual respect.
